Warnings & Precautions
Source: Lexicomp
Hypersensitivity reaction
Discontinue if any sign of hypersensitivity reaction occurs. Other warnings/precautions:
Appropriate use
Management of adynamic ileus should include correction of fluid and electrolyte imbalance (especially hypokalemia), anemia, hypoproteinemia, treatment of infection, and the avoidance of drugs which decrease GI motility and decompression of the GI tract when considerably distended by nasogastric suction or use of a long intestinal tube. If ileus is a secondary consequence of mechanical obstruction, primary attention should be directed to the obstruction.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy
Animal reproduction studies have not been conducted.
Lactation
Lactating women should follow the U.S. Recommended Daily Allowances for their condition since their vitamin requirement may exceed those of nonlactating women. It is not known if dexpanthenol is excreted in human milk. The manufacturer recommends that caution be exercised when administering dexpanthenol to nursing women.
